It snowed today and for the entire morning you couldn't see the mountains for all the white around. It's melted quite a bit but the trees are still gorgeously frosted! I would have taken pictures, but I was busy behind the whee :)
I drove from Ubersee (farmland, cows, my driving practice grounds) to Bad Endorf (grocery store) and then back to Rimsting (house). That meant taking the autobahn! The family, lucky for me, decided to trade their car in for an automatic this week, meaning I don't have to re-learn to drive and I get to keep my congruently sized legs! (They said the switch was because the stick shift was starting to get to Mariska, who had a shoulder issue, but I can't help wondering about the timing...).
The speed limits and road signs here are a bit different though. Like when you're leaving a town, it has a big sign with the town's name and a big red line through it. (The first time I saw one, I though that meant we were driving through a spot where a town formally stood, but no longer existed. As if it was a historic site or something). They also have the weirdest stop lights: Lights go from green to yellow to red, and then back to yellow before returning to green. So when you have a yellow light, don't run it - perpendicular traffic has a yellow light too and they are getting ready to go. Running a yellow light will also cost you your licence for an entire month! Then some lights don't even have green, if nothings flashing you're good to go. Because the streets aren't all grid-like, some intersections have traffic from 5 directions, so green light is not quite so straightforward. And because the cars are smaller, some streets are too. We've turned onto streets I would have assumed weren't drive-able because they looked like sidewalks!
Anyway, lots of fun driving and it feels good to know my way around a lot better now! Hopefully the snow will last a bit and I can post some more pictures!
