Two weeks late, but it was so fun I wanted to write it down. The day of the last soccer game, Eliz, Gabby and I went hiking in Traunstein. We were at the foot of the alps and climbed to about 1160 meters high. It was STEEP, and about a 2.5 hour hike. I had an Almdudler at the top with my currywurst and pommes, cause I thought it sounded fun. It's basically just Ginger Ale, which they don't have here!
We had a great view of the area but couldn't see our lake so we went exploring a bit and found a great lookout spot facing the Chiemsee! Amazing view of everything! Such gorgeous scenery.
We planned to hike back but looked at the time and realized we wouldn't make it for the game. Grabbed the cable car and swung to the bottom and then raced home autobahn style to watch soccer!
Our groups was late as usual so it was hard to find a spot to watch but the spa/pool in town has a little private beach where they put up a beer tent and massive screen so people could watch outdoors! I'm pretty sure you already know who won, so I won't recap the game for you, but it was so exciting to be a part of the winning country's celebrations.
We all had to work the next day so we didn't want to stay out all night like the rest of the country would be. We went to Daniel's to say goodbye to Neil, who moved to Dusseldorf the next week, and then all drove our separate ways. I was giving Eliz a ride, or at least tried to, but we couldn't make it past the traffic circle in town! Cars, bikes, pets, and people were running around and partying in the massive parking circle. Someone had put massive stereos on their TRACTOR and a party had started in the street. There are a couple restaurants and bars right beside the circle, so people were spilling out onto the street and joining the party. The people in front of me turned of their engines and left their cars in the middle of the road to go join! Eliz and I found a parking spot (I'm not leaving a car that isn't mine in the middle of a street full of drunk people), called Daniel and Neil to join us again, and then went and joined. Eliz kept recognizing kids she had to teach the next morning and we even came across our 70 year old German teacher dancing! One man had to fulfill a bet to run around the circle naked 8 times if Germany won. And cars drove in circles for hours just blasting music and waving the German flag. This was our town of 10,000 people. Apparently Munich had a street party that caused a 5 kilometer traffic blockade! Unfortunately, with all the dancing and so on, I have no photos that actually make any visual sense. So here are a few of the hike!
