Unfortunately after Leipzig Eliz had to go back home, so I hit up Nürnburg alone! It was way too short a trip for such a cool city. For some reason I thought it was a small city and could be done as a day trip. Not at all! I arrived and found my hostel and then tried to hit up a museum before the end of the day. I ended up walking to the wrong to the museum that closed early and was then too late for the other museums :(
But it meant I got to spend the afternoon walking around the beautiful city! Not a grid plan at all. With that and the bridges covering the river running through the city it reminded me so much of Venice! Of the entire weekend, I definitely fell the most in love with Nürnburg. I ate Bratwurst and drank a Radler (ew. Never again) and because it reminded me of Italy I got gelato for my walk home. It was freezing cold out but everyone else was eating it!
The next day I got up early to see the Nazi Party Rally Grounds. Hitler really liked Nürnburg and decided to use it as his home base. He started to build massive grounds for the Nazi Party there, although most of them were never completed. The grounds are massive and still used now for campgrounds and big festivals. I'd heard that walking through the grounds was a really somber thing, but it was a really sunny day and in all honesty it just looked like a big empty park. After that I made it back in time for a hike up the massive hill that is the old town to the Imperial Castle! Great view of the city! Unfortunately, I didn't have to time to make it to see the Justice Hall where they actually held the Nürnburg Trials, so that is first on my list next time!
